Karsan USA is the U.S. affiliate of the Turkish automotive manufacturer, Karsan. Since its launch in 1966, Karsan has been producing commercial vehicles for the world’s leading brands and its own brands.

Karsan USA has a corporate office in New York, but would look to Miami-Dade County’s manufacturing facility as the home of Karsan USA, should the Nopetro/Karsan bid to provide vehicles, along with CNG fuel facilities and fuel to Miami-Dade County Transit be realized. Karsan USA would look to expand throughout the North American market from its base in Miami-Dade, Florida.

Karsan USA is the U.S. affiliate of the Turkish automotive manufacturer Karsan. Since its launch in 1966, Karsan has been producing commercial vehicles in its state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Bursa, Turkey. Its customers include HMC, RT, Peugeot, besides producing for its own brand. Karsan, a global leader in the contract-based production of light and heavy commercial, has produced more than 113 thousand buses during its nearly half a century of operations from shuttles and coaches to articulated transit buses. Its product range consists of the Karsan minibus, midibus and full-size bus family (preferred in mass and service transport), including Hyundai light trucks and BredaMenarinibus buses.

The County will benefit in two major ways:

  • Karsan USA and its strategic partners commits to supply state-of-the-art natural gas-fueled buses to Miami-Dade County for an exceptionally attractive price tag.
  • Overall cost-savings to the County, plus the accountability and economic impact of having the buses produced locally.

During the construction phase of Karsan USA’s transit vehicle manufacturing facility, The Washington Economics Group, one of the region’s most respected research organizations, has determined the project will be the source of the following economic impacts:

  • 138 direct jobs and support a total of 243 jobs (includes indirect/induced)
  • $8 million in direct household income and support a total of $13.1 million (includes indirect/induced)
  • $20 million in direct economic impact and support a total of $33 million in total economic impact
  • $9.23 million in total taxes during the duration of construction

During the operations phase of Karsan USA’s transit vehicle manufacturing facility, The Washington Economics Group has determined the project will be the source of the following economic impacts on an annual recurring basis:

  • 80 direct full-time jobs and support a total of 220 jobs (includes indirect/induced); employment will double to at least 150 direct full-time jobs once more orders for buses are finalized
  • $3 million in direct household income and support a total of $10 million (includes     indirect/induced)
  • $44 million in direct economic impact and support a total of $64 million (includes indirect/induced)
